Install the extension

Video Download Free starts from the browser extension. Install the Chrome extension, open it on a supported video page, then choose a detected MP4, WebM, or M3U8/HLS stream.

Install Chrome Extension

Available for Chrome and compatible desktop Chromium browsers. Firefox, Safari, and mobile browsers cannot install this Chrome extension.

What can it download?

Video Download Free is intended for videos you have the right to save. The first version supports direct MP4/WebM files and common HLS/M3U8 streams.

How do I use it?

Open a web page with a video, start playback if needed, then open the extension popup. When a downloadable item appears, choose a format or quality and start the download. Large downloads open a task page so progress and save controls stay visible.

What is not supported?

YouTube, DRM-protected streams, paywall bypassing, and access-control bypassing are not supported.

Why does a download open a new tab?

Large downloads need a long-running task page. The popup is temporary, but the task page can show progress, retry segments, and save the file.

Why are title and cover hidden on the task page?

The downloader task page may keep source titles and covers hidden while the download runs. The extension can still use the original title when saving a file when that information is available.

What should I do if a download fails?

Refresh the original page, play the video again for a few seconds, reopen the extension, and start a new task. Some source URLs expire or require the original page to stay available.

How do updates work?

Browser extension updates are delivered by the browser store. If a safer update is required, the extension may show an update notice with browser-specific instructions.
