Large HLS downloads need progress, retries, and file preparation. A full task page is more stable than doing all of that inside a small popup.
Why is the product free?
The core download flow is free. Ads on the task page help pay for development and hosting.
Does VDF upload videos to a server?
No. The current product is browser-first and does not use a server-side video proxy.
